Sweet Mother of Mary, do you see the thick layer of icing on top of this cake?? Last week I attended an event at the chic Hollywood club "My House." I happened to be bopping around a birthday girl's table when this glorious mass or red velvet cake arrived.
I simply had to have a slice (or 2) and the generous people at the table were more than willing to share (it pays to be the Dessert Darling 😉
Turns out, the cake came from the infamous Sweet Lady Jane bakery, for which I gave a scathing cupcake review (see here). While I still stand by the fact that their cupcakes are bland disappointments, this red velvet cake begs a separate review.
Typical of Sweet Lady Jane's style, the icing wasn't too sweet, which worked out since there was so much of it. In short, the cream-cheese frosting was positively Edible. The cake itself was a bit cold and dry, clearly signs of refrigeration. We all agreed it was yummy cake, worthy of 3.5 cherries.

I recently had Sweet Lady Jane Red Velvet cake at a birthday party and it was really really really good. Now I know what all the Red Velvet fuss is about.
