Introducing Thinny Thursdays

By Dessert Darling ·   July 15th, 2010

One of the first things people ask me when I tell them that I’m a dessert critic is “How do you eat so many desserts and stay so thin?!” ((Sigh)) I was really hoping that Dessert Darling could be an innocent realm where calories, fat, and weight don’t matter.  I don’t like over-thinking or obsessing about food, since that is actually one of the key tricks for me to staying thin in the first place!  Alas, people really want some answers, so I’ve thought carefully about them in hopes that it will help you on your personal journeys.

Let me state right off the bat that I am not a nutritionist. That said, I am ironically passionate about and well read on matters of health, science, and nutrition. What works for me though, may not work for you, but I guess it’s worth a shot!

Below are my Top 10 Thin Tips in no particular order. While they may not make sense now and might even seem counter intuitive to what you’ve read about dieting, I will elaborate on each tip every Thinny Thursday to bring clarity! So stay tuned 😉

TOP 10 THIN TIPS

1) Eat real food.. Don’t care about fat

2) Never drink sodas, rarely drink calories

3) Eat breakfast and fiber

4) Don’t eat 3.5 hours before bed

5) Be in touch with your body

6) It’s good to spaz

7) Move your body.. Don’t over exercise

8) Enjoy eating! Never starve yourself

9) Be happy

10) Don’t obsess

Great tips! I totally agree with all of them, but am sad to say that tip #2 is my kryptonite. I’ve even tried drinking just club soda to take baby steps. Sadly to say, it only worked for a while. You’re definitely right, what works for one may not work for another.

Hi Lequan! Just curious- what motivates you to drink sodas: is it for energy? to substitute snacking? old habit? or you really enjoy the fizz and taste? Thanks 🙂

    Thought it is thirsty Thursday?
Almost fulfilled all of above except for 2] (3 gulps of Hecho en Mexico Coke from a bottle). As for (4) Ate at 11pm, stayed up til 1am; that’s still kosher, yes?

And um, I just might have broken Tip #4 Sat night when I wrote this post

    Hi Jenny,
I actually really enjoy both the fizz and taste together. That’s why I tried to cut out taste (tried tasteless club soda) and just tried drinking it for the fizz but it didn’t work. I’ve gone cold turkey on a lot of things during my two pregnancies but soda has been the one thing I can’t break away from. I drank decaffeinated pop during my preggos days. Sigh.

    Great tips!
I had to learn not to obsess, myself.
    Pilates definitely helps me!
How do you feel about wine?
Any guidelines you apply there for yourself?

I’ve been meaning to comment on this post all week! I get the same kind of questions, “How do you stay skinny when you eat like that?” etc, and after a while it does start to bother me some. I tend to follow similiar guidelines as you do with regard to my diet – I don’t deprive myself of anything I want, but I do make sure to balance out my indulgences. It’s all about listening to your body. And when my body wants chocolate, by golly, I’ll give it chocolate! 🙂
