Last week I wrote this glowing review on Starbucks’ new Cake Pops (click here). Alas, their mini Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake and mini Red Velvet Whoopie Pie did not astound me the way that the Cake Pops did. The cake part on both items was a little dry, and the PB frosting was a bit salty and gummy-like from sitting out on the counter. That said, I really enjoyed the mild cream cheese frosting inside the Whoopie Pie.
The truth is most bakeries have a problem keeping their mini cupcakes moist. This fact in mind, I wouldn’t recommend that a coffee chain offer minis. Cake Pops are a perfect solution because the frosting and cake part is safely preserved inside a yummy chocolate coating.
XOXO

Ooh, I just noticed these in Starbucks this morning! It took some self control to not buy one of each; thanks for testing them out for me!
I tried the red velvet whoopie pie the other day, I took one bite and threw the rest away. I know i’m biased, I just didn’t want to waste the calories :)!!
Nice and so testy dish you shared here.
Good to know! I also could not believe that little cupcake is a nice 170 cal.. OY!
oh what a bummer when I went they had just been made so i guess that was the differnce.
I bought a red velvet whoopie this morning. Disgusting! I love Starbucks, but will only buy coffee there from now on. It tasted as though it had been sitting for a week. Dry beyond belief and tasted stale.
