Wedding Dessert Table, Part 2: Bears on a Stick by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

By Dessert Darling · Comments (2)
Friday, September 23rd, 2011

As you can imagine, I put a tremendous amount of thought into my dessert station and was rather strategic about my selections. I chose these Bears on a Stick by the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory because I know that many people prefer salty items to sweet ones when they are drinking. Voila- these awesome pretzel rods, dipped in caramel, rolled in peanuts, and drizzled in chocolate were the perfect choice. Everyone who had one was raving about these multi-texutred, sweet and salty goodies. I knew they would be tasty, but I had no idea how huge a hit they would actually be! Wow- glad I got those!

Adventures in Pretzel M&Ms

By Dessert Darling · Comments (3)
Monday, September 19th, 2011

You might recall this post where I shared my reignited ardor for Peanut Butter M&Ms and poo-pooed the new Coconut edition.  That M&M entry prompted many of you to ask me about pretzel M&Ms. One beloved reader even sent me a few bags of them to try! WowWee.  Thanks Laura!

Pretzel bag.JPG

Here’re my thoughts on the new blue bag on the block: These M&Ms are much more of a snack experience than they are a chocolate one.  The candy chocolate shells that coat these sizable pretzel-balls are simply too thin to yield the normal dose of chocolate that you’d expect from M&Ms.  Indeed, it’s almost alarming to bite into them and have such a dry crunch in your mouth.  Finally, due to the lack of chocolate and the presence of salt, the flavor of these treats is almost more reminiscent of caramel than it is cocoa.

Pretzel1

The best thing about the Prezel M&Ms? They’re only 5 grams of fat per bag! And while I don’t like to count calories and fat, that’s a sizable difference from its fattier friends and makes me more likely to grab a bag before hopping on a flight!

Thanks again Laura! Laura does more than donate M&Ms to me, she’s the Charity Girl at UTA, so please, do good and follow the UTA Foundation Twitter!

Gourmet Artisan Marshmallows by 240Sweet

By Dessert Darling · Comments (3)
Monday, July 18th, 2011

Step aside Jet-Puffed, 240Sweet has officially escalated your average marshmallow ingredient into a star dessert of its very own right. Wow. I discovered 240Sweet on a Daily Candy deal and knew I had to give these treats a try. When I went online to order them, I was floored by the extensive range of flavors. Um, might there be two hundred and forty of them?! Seriously, the options range from Cookies and Cream to Avocado and Lime. Say what?! I ordered the Bacon Maple Toffee, Salty Caramel Twist, and Chocolate Covered Pretzel.

I about died when I tried the Bacon Maple Toffee, which naturally, also had Chocolate. The large and fluffy layers with sweet, salty, and textured toppings were a party in my mouth.

However, the other flavors let me down. The Salty Caramel was overly sweet and the pretzels were soft and not crunchy.  Bummer. But, with so many flavors to try from, there’re surely some hits and misses in the bunch. Overall, these marshmallows are a must-try for marshmallow lovers!

At my bridal shower we learned how to make.. get ready for this… New Mexican Chile and Pumpkin Seed Artisan Nut Brittle. Say what!? Check out this impromptu video that my friend Juls of Awake and Living shot for me!

This candy was one of the most unique concoctions that I’ve ever tried.

And it was made even more fascinating when paired with a thin apple slice and cheese. Wowee! What an addicting combo~

A zillion thanks again to my fabulous maid-of-honor Ali, Julie, and  Autumn Reeser for the party, and Leslie Sarna for these fantastic pics!

S’mashing S’mores from Trader Joes are Simply Smashing!

Mmmmmm. I can’t stop eating these S’mashing S’mores from Trader Joes!

The key to delicious desserts is delicious ingredients. The most notable trait about these candy-bar bites is the heavenly milk chocolate that envelopes the marshmallow pillow and crunchy, graham cracker bed.

While they suggest microwaving them for a traditional experience, I think these bites are JUST fine as they come.

Oh TJ, you’ve done it again.  Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss!

Recently we had a very heated and close poll between Reese’s Pieces and Peanut Butter M&Ms (click here to see!). Today I’m pitching Baby Ruth versus Snickers.  Which chocolatey, caramel, nougat and nut candybar do you prefer?!

See’s Candies, a Household Holiday Staple!

5 Cherries
If See’s advertised itself as a chocolatier, I’d have to give them 3.5 cherries. But they don’t, they call their treats candy, and that distinction escalates their rating to a solid 5-cherries for their chocolaty, crunchy, tasty goodness! If not for yummy-factor, than at least for nostalgia’s sake. I literally can’t conceive of a holiday in my home without a box of See’s accompanying the festivities.

Since childhood, these mini, gourmet candy bars have made their way into every Christmas, Easter, and birthday celebration, with each family member having a favorite.

Dad’s the marzipan, mom’s the dark chocolate with almonds, my brother Chris likes the cherry cordials, Greg’s the healthy one who’d rather eat beef jerky, and I was a “Scotch Mallow” girl (butterscotch and marshmallow covered in chocolate.. mmmm).

While I don’t think these are the most delicate and say, sexy treats, for a romantic affair, I do think they’re fun and hearty chocolates for a family to enjoy on special occasions.

Reese’s Pieces versus Peanut Butter M&Ms, You Decide…

By Dessert Darling · Comments (3)
Sunday, February 20th, 2011

So last night my guy and I made it a Blockbuster night, and we got into a little stand-off when it came to our candy purchase. Before I elaborate  though, I must declare- I don’t like artificial candy! I always feel worse after I eat it. But last night it looked so fun and colorful and well- it was a Sat. night! We had to splurge!

Anyway, my guy wanted Reeces Pieces and I suggested that we get Peanut Butter M&Ms. This spurred a whole debate as to which candy is actually better.

So now I ask YOU, dear DD readers, which candy do you prefer??
