Wedding Dessert Table Recap

By Dessert Darling · Comments (1)
Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

In case you missed the Wedding Dessert Table breakdown, here’s a quick recap on all the goodies that we had and why! :)

  1. Cheesecake Pops dipped in white and dark chocolate by Sweet Lauren Cakes for a slightly sour and savory dimension. (more here)
  2. Bears on a Stick by the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Pretzel rods dipped in caramel, rolled in peanuts, and drizzled in chocolate for a salty-sweet, crunchy option.  I know people like salty items when they’re drinking- these were a Huge hit. (more here)
  3.  Swizzle Cakes, cocktail inspired mini-cupcakes with a slight alcoholic kick. To die for. (more here)
  4. Christopher Elbow Chocolates because who doesn’t like gorgeous, artisan, gourmet chocolates!? (more here)
  5. Circus Animal Cookies for nostalgic’s sake.. and the pink and white colors!  (more here)
In addition to these goodies we had a good-humor ice cream cart and a 3 tiered Lakers cake that I surprised my man with by Cake and Art. Overall, I’ve never seen desserts fly faster at a wedding than they did ours (and I’ve been to over 30 weddings!). Wow- I’m so glad that people enjoyed all the treats that I selected for them!

XOXO

Wedding Dessert Table, Part 5: Cheesecake Pops by Sweet Lauren Cakes

By Dessert Darling · Comments (1)

A cursory glance of Sweet Lauren’s blog will quickly reveal the most darling Cake Pops that you have ever seen. These ladies are PROS who clearly care dearly about every fastidious detail of each delightful pop. Wow! I was so happy to find not only adorable Cake Pops in Northern California, but also a company that would make Cheesecake Pops, as these seemed rather impossible to track down. Lauren went so far as to create a new recipe so that my wildest wedding fantasies could come to true. I needed Cheesecake Pops, verses regular Cake Pops, because I didn’t want to have a treat that would be redundant with the Swizzle Cakes. Furthermore, the slightly salty, sour touch of the cheesecake would be a nice contrast to the other, simply sweet selections. At the end of the day, Sweet Lauren Cakes nailed it.

Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor Day everyone!  I don’t know about you, but the theme of my whole weekend has been FOOD, FOOD, and then some more FOOD. OH-my, I’m in serious need of following my own Thinny Tips! Ha.

On Saturday night I attended the glorious Taste of Beverly Hills at the Hilton. Serious kudos to Food and Wine and all the organizers for putting on such a successful event!!

Instead of reviewing everything, I’m just going to share snap-shots of the sweetest highlights!

IMG_1082The Chocolate Pudding from Nate ‘n Al’s was thick, rich and delicious. The consistency was almost as dense as cream cheese and the strong cocoa flavor was totally decadent.

IMG_1079The fresh Rugelach from Nate ‘n Al’s melted in my mouth!

Photo-1This “Blum’s Coffee Crunch Cake” from Valerie Confections completely delighted me. Two layers of chiffon cake frosted in coffee whipped cream and topped with chunks of coffee honeycomb! So fun!

'smores cupsThese ‘smore cups were a great idea, but my marshmallow was a bit hard. I would have better enjoyed the treat if a warm and gooey marshmallow melted in my mouth.  The textured layers below with crunchy chocolate balls, though, salvaged the dessert.

IMG_1091The salted caramel ice-cream from Carmela Ice-cream was a bit salty and burnt in flavor for all of our tastes, but the strawberry-cream scoop beneath it was perfection.

IMG_1083These Zucchini Terrine bites from District with spiced mouse and walnut praline were original and surprisingly good.  More importantly, District had one of my favorite offerings at the whole event! Their Venison Relleno with Goat Cheese and smoked Corn Puree was truly an amazing experience!

IMG_1093I had these divine Dulce de Leche cheesecake bars with sprinkled sea-salt on top at a BBQ last night.

6a012876272fb6970c0133edafff6d970b-800wiPerhaps one of my most FAVORITE treats of the weekend were these To-Die for Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookies, made my by friend, “the Dainty Vegetarian,” Leslie Sarna! It’s unbelievable that these cookies are also Gluten-Free and have no animal fats!  Click here for this awesome recipe!

Wow- and that’s just what I had pictures for!  Well, I hope you all had Labor Day weekends as Tasty as mine, and if not, may you have been working out every day for me!

3.5 Cherries

Hi. Allow me to introduce you to my current obsession.

Yummy.com

Yummy.com, my friends, is not only Yummy (and it does elicit cheers of “Yummy!” and “mmm, Yummy” from all) but also, it’s Convenient, and when you live in a city where you spend more time sitting in traffic than sleeping at night, convenience is golden.

For months I’ve used Yummy.com to deliver fresh salads, paper-towels, cases of water, and whatever else I’ve needed last minute, but today, today I discovered that that they also have delectable desserts that go beyond your convenient store Twinkies.

On a whim, I ordered the Classic NY Cheesecake, which I quite promptly inhaled.  It had a very thin graham cracker crust and the cake itself was whipped up to a light consistency.  I’ve never been a fan of dense cheesecakes since the first heavenly slice that I ever consumed was my mom’s home-made fluffy, multi-layered perfection. I truly remember that experience like it was yesterday, my 5-year old self was in such awe of this introduction to new flavors and consistencies! Alas, nothing has held a torch to her cake, so I’ve learned to lower my cheesecake standards.

This humble slice didn’t boast fresh berries, mocha swirls, chocolate drizzle or even a hearty crust to cradle it, but it did taste absolutely delicious in it’s simplicity.

Yet again, Yummy pulls through.  I can’t wait to dry the “Magic Bar” that I ordered tonight!

Crisp Banana Cheesecake Bunuelos at Happy Ending Bar and Restaurant

3 Cherries
"Crisp Banana Cheesecake 'Bunuelos' with Caramel Sauce and Fresh Bananas, Ala Mode!" states the menu.  A DD-say-What? Wow, let's order the thing and break it down!

Hmm, ok, what we've got here is warm cheesecake in a fried pocket of cinnamon-sugar dusted dough, caramelized bananas on the side, a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, and a side of whipped-cream, all on top of caramel drizzle. Woo!  That's a mouthful, literally! While this might look thrilling, I think there's a lot of song and dance here with not so much substance.  It's all just Too Much.  I'm a quality over quantity gal. I'd rather have one fabulous cheesecake than all this hoopla. Instead, the cheesecake was ordinary and overshadowed by it's fried encasing, the bananas were good, but not extraordinary, and the ice-cream was yummy, because let's face it, ice-cream is yummy.  Ultimately, the cookies that we also ordered were superior to this large and overly-complicated dish.
