Trader Joe’s Chocolate Covered Sunflower Seeds & Organic Dark Chocolate Mint by Green & Black’s

By Dessert Darling · March 17th, 2013

4.5cherries

The other night I had the greatest catch-up with my dear, dear friend Laura. We chatted for four hours straight about everything under the sun from Sheryl Sandberg’s book Lean In to how amazing these Trader Joe’s Chocolate Sunflower Seeds are. First of all, count on Laura to have the best of the best in her pantry. The Green & Black’s Mint Dark Chocolate was exquisite. Rarely do a I find a store bought bar of dark chocolate to be that delightful. That said, it had some serious competition.

SunflowerSeedsandChocolate

The Chocolate Sunflower Seeds were the most addictive and delicious little morsels of joy. They’re sweet, nutty, and fun to eat with their jubilant colors and varying sizes. And since I avoid artificial ingredients, I was glad to see that the bright colors were derived from natural sources like Paprika and beets.

That said, there is such a thing as eating too many (as I’m apt to do), and I ended up with an unequivocal tummy ache. Awe, yes, now I remember why I never buy Chocolate Sunflower seeds. If you can practice control around these tempting treats, they’re a totally fun indulgence to share with a friend.

Valentine’s Day Marshmallow Pops- So Sweet

By Dessert Darling · February 11th, 2013

I love these Valentine’s Day Marshmallow Pops for many reasons.

v-day-marshmallow-pops-332

  • They give you a break from chocolate (not that one really needs a chocolate break)
  • They’re adorable (obviously)
  • They’re simple to make, yet still super festive
  • They’re easy to pass out
  • They’re fun to eat
  • They’re a lighter option than most desserts

To avoid artificial ingredients, make your own pops with love as shown here by Martha Stewart (but use Organic corn syrup)!

Organic Chocolate Nut Munch from Healthy Batch

By Dessert Darling · February 8th, 2013

5cherries2

In case you missed this HealthyDarling.com post, I’ve been pretty excited about the launch of my friend’s site, HealthyBatch.com. Healthy Batch is a flash sales site (like Fab) that features organic products at discounted rates. Amazing! I immediately ordered these Chocolate Nut Munch bites and they arrived the very next day. What What?!

NutMunchBags

The order came with all three flavors- Omega Munch, Maple Nut Munch, and Coco-nut Munch. All of the selections are Fair Trade 75% dark chocolate, and contain protein, fiber, and antioxidants. Additionally, they are soy-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free. Wow.

NutMunch

With their deep, dark chocolate and refined ingredients, these bites are definitely suited for a sophisticated palette. While they’re not the most decadent dessert in the world, I have to give 5-cherries for making something so historically sinful, both delicious and healthy.

Pink Himalayan Crystal Salt, Caramel, Chocolate Bar by Vosges

By Dessert Darling · February 4th, 2013

Last Monday I wrote this scathing review of Vosge’s Bacon Chocolate Bar. Vosges has quickly gone from zero to hero with their Pink Himalayan Crystal Salt Caramel Bar. Yes, that’s a just really long way of saying “salted-caramel bar.” But hey, they figure they can charge $7.50 per bar with a fancier name. Marketing aside, this bar really does delight with its high quality, 70% cacao chocolate, and salty-sweet, drizzling caramel. Warning, the caramel can make things messy if you don’t eat a whole square at a time. This designer chocolate bar would be great for gifting (on top of  a gift, on it’s own, or as a stocking stuffer).

Yummy. For more information on Vosges chocolates, click here.

Healthy Super Bowl Dessert to Cheer the Niners to Victory!

By Dessert Darling · February 1st, 2013

YEA!!!! Today I’m flying to New Orleans to watch the 49ers go the distance at the Super Bowl- How exciting! Good thing this isn’t the early 2000s, or else I’d be bummed I was missing the Britney Spears commercials (ha). While I won’t be attending any home parties this year, I still recommend these darling Chocolate Covered Strawberries. These treats are festive, delicious, and practically a health food compared to the other items that abound at Super Bowl parties.

GO 49ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers!

TATE’S Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

By Dessert Darling · December 3rd, 2012

While I’m normally a Thick-&-Chewy Cookie kinda girl, there’s something rather addicting about TATE’S thin crisp Chocolate Chip Cookies. Additionally, TATE’s has achieved this success with their Gluten Free fare- no easy feat!

You can find TATE’s crispy cookies in Whole Foods and other high end grocery stores. Or click here to order TATE’s online.

Pumpkin Pie from Whole Foods on Fairfax and 3rd

By Dessert Darling · November 19th, 2012

It’s Pie Time and I love nothing more than eating a delicious Pumpkin Pie and justifying the indulgence thanks to the squash’s high levels of fiber and Vitamin A. My girlfriends and I recently tried this gorgeous pie from Whole Foods and swooned in unison. In addition to it’s rich, creamy texture, fresh and delicate balance of flavors, Whole Foods never uses artificial colors, sweeteners, preservatives, or trans fats in their baked goods. Yes Yes Yes! I swear guys, this is how you get to eat desserts and stay thin, eat real food!!!

This Pumpkin Pie from the Fairfax and 3rd location was pure perfection.

If you can’t make a Pumpkin Pie from scratch this Thanksgiving, order one from Whole Foods!

Bubby’s Apple Pie from NY, ordered on GILT Taste

By Dessert Darling · September 28th, 2012

What’s more exciting than coming home to a gorgeous Apple Whisky Crumble Pie?? Nothing. Nothing is the answer. Nothing is more exciting than seeing a big box outside your door and promptly tearing it open with the ferocity of late afternoon hunger. Wow, I ordered this NY Bubby’s Pie from GILT Taste and it tasted freshly made, despite it’s 3,000 mile journey.

The pie came on the thin side and boasted bright ingredients like lemon, cloves, and cinnamon. I was too impatient to heat it up, so I can’t say that I had this dish in it’s most ultimate form (hot and with melting a la mode, no doubt) BUT, that didn’t matter. Why? Because it came with this swoon-inducing sauce on the side that I nearly licked right out of the container.

Let’s talk about this sauce. I want to say it’s Butterscotch, but since this is a Whiskey Apple Pie, then shall I call it Butterwhisk?? Whatever the name, it was buttery, sweet, a bit alcoholic, and totally intoxicating. This special sauce escalated a perfectly lovely Apple Pie to an undeniable 5-cherry experience. Bravo Bubby’s in NY!  And look at GILT, pulling through for me again!

Donsuemor does Madeleines Right

By Dessert Darling · September 24th, 2012

Madeleines aren’t exactly the treat that get me jumping up and down for joy, but when done right, they could almost compete with the real desserts of the world. While Madeleines look like cookies, they’re actually small sponge cakes that are distinctively shaped like shells. Madeleines make lovely additions to sophisticated gatherings like teas, luncheons, and showers.

Donsuemor recently sent me a box of Madeleines that included Lemon Zezt, Chocolate, regular, and chocolate dipped Madeleines. Mmm, I was impressed! Surprisingly so! These fresh treats smelled of rich butter and were adequately sweet for my tastes. I also loved the spongy yet buttery consistency. Well done Donsuemor!
